The Perth Wildcats have easily accounted for Toyota Alvark in the first of their three-game series at Perry Lakes on Sunday night.
The Cats won every term, and after leading 40-22 at the first break were never in danger. They smashed the visitors 68-39 on the boards.
New skipper Paul Rogers (17 points, 7 rebounds) threw a scare into the camp as he limped off the court in the second term, but it was just a soft cork and he returned to wreak havoc in the paint after half-time.
Shawn Redhage continued the form that saw him become the runner-up MVP for the NBL last season, with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists, while Peter Crawford played 27 minutes for 18 points to show he’d shaken off the hamstring tear that saw him return home early from Taiwan.
New guard Darren Brooks showed his value with 16 points, 12 boards and 6 assists, while starting point guard Adam Caporn grabbed 11 points.
New tall Justin Brown grabbed three boards and dropped 12 points in his 17 minutes, and development guard Brad Robbins showed his usual desperation to grab 4 boards, 3 assists and a steal in his 11 minutes.
Game two is at Craigie Leisure Centre on Monday night at 7pm and tickets are available from the centre.
